‘올바른 삶을 사는 법’ (스티브 잡스 1955.2.24.~2011.10.5.)

나는 사업에서 성공의 최고 정점에 도달했었다.

다른 사람들 눈에는 내 삶이 성공의 전형으로 보일 것이다.

그러나 나는 일을 떠나서는 기쁨이라고 거의 느끼지 못한다. 결과적으로, 부(富)라는 것이 내게는 그저 익숙한 삶의 일부일 뿐이다.

지금 이 순간, 병석에 누워 나의 지난 삶을 회상해보면, 내가 그토록 자랑스럽게 여겼던 주위의 갈채와 막대한 부는 임박한 죽음 앞에서 그 빛을 잃었고 그 의미도 다 상실했다.

어두운 방안에서 생명보조 장치에서 나오는 푸른빛을 물끄러미 바라보며 낮게 웅웅거리는 기계 소리를 듣고 있노라면, 저승사자의 숨길이 점점 가까이 다가오는 것을 느낀다.

이제야 깨닫는 것은 평생 배 굶지 않을 정도의 부만 축적되면, 더 이상 돈버는 일과 상관없는 다른 일에 관심을 가져야 한다는 사실이다.

그건 돈버는 일보다는 더 중요한 뭔가가 되어야 한다. 그건 인간관계가 될 수도 있고, 예술일 수도 있으며 어린 시절부터 가졌던 꿈일 수도 있다.

쉬지 않고 돈버는 일에만 몰두하다보면 결과적으로 비뚤어진 인간이 될 수밖에 없다. 바로 나같이 말이다.

부에 의해 조성된 환상과는 달리, 하나님은 우리가 사랑을 느낄 수 있도록 감성이란 것을 모두의 마음속에 넣어 주셨다.

평생에 내가 벌어들인 재산은 가져갈 도리가 없다. 내가 가져갈 수 있는 것이 있다면 오직 사랑으로 점철된 추억뿐이다.

그것이 진정한 부이며 그것은 우리를 따라오고 동행하며, 우리가 나아갈 힘과 빛을 가져다 줄 것이다.

사랑은 수천 마일 떨어져 있더라도 전할 수 있다. 삶에는 한계가 없다.

당신이 가고 싶은 곳이 있으면 가라. 당신이 높은 곳에 도달하고 싶으면 올라가보라.

모든 것은 당신이 마음먹기에 달렸고 당신의 결단 속에 있다.

이 세상에서 가장 비싼 침대는 무엇일까? 그건 ‘병석’이다.

당신은 운전수를 고용하여 자동차를 운전 하게 할 수도 있고, 직원을 고용하여 당신을 위해 돈을 벌게 할 수도 있지만, 당신의 병을 대신 앓도록 시킬 수 있는 사람을 고용할 수는 없다.

물질은 잃어버리더라도 되찾을 수 있지만, 절대 되찾을 수 없는 게 하나 있으니 바로 ‘생명’이다.

누구라도 수술실에 들어갈 즈음이면 진작 읽지 못해 후회하는 책 한권이 있는데 ‘건강한 삶 지침서’이다.

현재 우리의 인생이 어느 지점에 이르렀든지 상관없이, 때가 되면 누구나 인생이란 무대의 막이 내리는 날을 맞게 되어 있다.

가족을 위한 사랑과 부부간의 사랑 그리고 이웃을 향한 사랑을 귀히 여겨라.

자신을 잘 돌보고 이웃을 사랑하라.

I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world.

In other's eyes, my life is an epitome of success.

However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I feel the breath of god of death drawing closer.

Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth.

Should be something that is more important. Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days.

Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me.

God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone's heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth.

The wealth that I have won in my life I cannot bring with me. What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love.

That's the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on.

Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limits.

Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach.

It is all in your heart and in your hands.

What is the most expensive bed in the world? ‘Sick bed’.

You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.

Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost ‘Life’.

When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading ‘Book of Healthy Life’.

Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.

Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends.

Treat yourself well. Cherish others.
